As much as JJ Grey has been influenced by the best soul and rhythm & blues singers of all time, he has been even more deeply moved, awakened somewhere in his spirit, by his native Jacksonville, Florida home. An audience to the sounds and sights of nature, Grey finds inspiration in his natural surroundings, and it only seems fitting that he released his August 2010 album, Georgia Warhorse, with Alligator Records. This outdoorsman writes his own songs and has seen his music—described in The New York Times as "Southern swamp rock with undercurrents of Memphis soul”—air on TV shows like House, Flashpoint, Crash, Friday Night Lights and The Deadliest Catch. In his career as a musician, he has also shared the stage with B.B. King, The Allman Brothers Band, The Black Crowes, Ben Harper and a great many others. “Mofro” is not the second half of a duo; rather, it is the name Grey has given to his band, which always consists of a different group of prolific players.
