Greenways Commission in garnering federal, state and local funds toward 17 different greenway projects. Greenways for Nashville provides education and increased public awareness of the recreation, health and fitness, environmental, transportation, economic and social benefits of greenways.Greenways are a significant part of the economic development equation for Middle Tennessee, an enhancement to the region's quality of life and provide numerous recreation opportunities.The Parks & Greenways Master Plan outlines the future growth of the system to include 210 miles of greenway trails. Greenways for Nashville works in partnership with the Metro Parks Department’s Greenways Commission.

In June of 2009, The Freeman Webb Building made its historic debut in Green Hills as Tennessee’s first Gold LEED pre-certified office building, setting a new standard for sustainable commercial development in our state.
   

Located on Bedford Avenue, The Freeman Webb Building features 60,000 square feet of class-A office space along with a breathtaking green roof overlooking Green Hills. It met the rigorous standards of the US Green Building Council to earn the rare Gold LEED designation thanks to environmentally sensitive construction practices and features, such as:

•Green roof with 1,200 plants from 15 different species, designed to filter water and reduce building’s cooling costs
• Retractable glass walls to provide open air access, daylight and natural ventilation
• Occupant detection sensors to automatically turn on/off office lights
• Reduced use of energy (25% less) and water (30% less) compared to buildings of similar size
• Interior and exterior constructed from recycled content
• Energy efficient HVAC system, air quality monitoring and metering system and High-efficiency elevators
• Preferred parking for hybrid vehicles and carpoolers
• Innovative bike rack and shower to encourage employees to walk & bike to work.
