LiveOntheGreen is committed to be an environmentally-friendly concert series. It is the responsible choice for our community and for our planet.
As Tennessee's Outdoor Leaders, Lightning 100's Team Green will help incorporating eco-friendly practices and sustainable choices into LiveOntheGreen. Because Team Green's goal is to connect the Nashville community with the outdoors, Team Green's leadership of LiveOntheGreen will incorporate many aspects of sustainability including reducing waste, recycling, re-using materials, reducing energy, engaging participants with green initiatives, and highlighting local, healthy food; all at downtown Nashville's masterpiece, our Courthouse, in an outdoor celebration.
Here are some initiatives that we are striving to implement with LiveOntheGreen:
- Green Roof: The location of the event is Nashville’s Public Square Plaza, a 2.25 acre green roof sitting on top of a 5 level subterranean parking garage.
- This state of the art structure incorporates a 57,000 gallon rainwater collection system that us used for irrigation of the green roof through out the year.
- Green Roofs reduce the Urban Heat Island Effect by introducing more green space to absorb the heating effects of the sun and prevent stormwater runoff.
- Low Waste Event:
- Food and drink vendors will produce less waste and offer more environmentally friendly packaging and distribution. No plastic bottled sodas are permitted at the event for sale, and most food is offered as finger food thus reducing the amount of waste from plates and plasticware. Beer is served in recyclable aluminum cans.
- Manned single stream Recycling Centers are located around the event for aluminum cans, plastic cups and paper products. No glass permitted
- Reusable Swig Swag mugs are available for purchase / gifts, encouraging participants to bring them back to each event for a discount on alcoholic beverages.
- Metro Water will have filtered tap water available, thus reducing the need for plastic water bottles.
- Wristbands and credentials are made from recycled materials and can be reused for an additional event/ promotion.
- Print collaterals/ flyers are discouraged. If distributed, they must be small and printed on recycled materials.
- Food Waste: Leftover and uncooked food from the foods vendors will be brought back to their restaurants and re-used or composted.
- Transit: A free Bike Check is available on-site with an incentive for riding a bicycle to the event. Attendees are encouraged to park at the LP Stadium and either walk or use MTA’s low fuel emission buses. Carpooling is encouraged.
- Merchandise: All merchandise for sale is made of eco-friendly materials and inks.
- Signage: Disposable plastic banners are not permitted on-site. All banners on-site must be re-useable at future events.
- Suppporting Local:
- Many of the artists are local artists, which allows for a reduced carbon footprint of travel. If travel is needed, we have worked with the artist to ensure they are using the most environmentally friendly choices of travel and accommodations.
- The Green Room and VIP area offers local food and will prioritize porcelain and non-disposable utensils for catered services.
- We will work with community organizations for tree plantings, clean-ups, and informational workshops to offset the carbon footprint for the event series to strive for a carbon neutral event.
